On June 4, Rise Against released their ninth studio album, Nowhere Generation. Released back in May, “The Numbers” has a moving music video that you can check out here. It definitely sets the tone for the album, putting out a call to rise. “Sudden Urge” strikes me as a typical Rise Against song, growing on me as the track went on and filled with metaphors that I love. “Nowhere Generation” captures the anger of a frustrated generation. The first single on the album, “Broken Dreams, Inc.” is also on the DC Comics soundtrack, Dark Nights: Death Metal. “Forfeit” is a slower song where you can hear the emotion in vocalist Tim McIlrath’s voice. To me, “Monarch,” is about growing stronger and moving on from something that once kept you back. “I love the lyrics in “Sounds Like,” especially the line “know exactly what you’re living for.” Wrapping up Nowhere Generation, “Rules Of Play” can be summed up with one line from the song: “because this life is a game I don’t know how to play.”
Nowhere Generation is an album where you’ll want to sit down and listen to the lyrics as you’re going through all the songs. While I like something about each of the tracks, my favorites are “Monarch,” “Sounds Like,” and “Sooner Or Later.” If you want to purchase or stream the album, click here.
