Emerging hard rock meets metal quintet Lions At The Gate made their powerful live debut last week at the iconic Whisky a Go Go. With a packed room and high energy, the guys certainly delivered a memorable performance. Amongst the crowd were many friends and family of the band there to support the band’s first ever live show. There was solid fluidity between the members that seemed to work seamlessly. To see band that in-tune with each other at their premiere live performance is truly unusual. If I hadn’t known this was the debut of Lions At The Gate, I’d easily assume these guys have been together for years prior.

The headbanging and hair whipping was synonymous with some of the classic, heaviest metal riffs and breakdowns reminiscent of metal veterans — but with a touch of new wave and smooth melodic choruses. I have been to The Whisky dozens of times, and never have I felt the walls and floor shake as much as they did that night. A pit broke out by the second song as people went all in. Without a doubt, I can see Lions At The Gate outgrowing these small venues and making their mark as a staple artist in the rock and metal world. They’ve got the energy, synchronization, support and everything necessary to evolve into a household name.

Their most recent release “Bed of Nails” is an excellent sample of everything you need to know and hear both from a production and instrumental standpoint. Lyrically, we can all relate to its meaning — which frontman Cristian Machado explains: “The message of the song is not hidden in the lyric, it is blatantly about deep inner struggle to accept the things you can not change. I think, especially to embrace those things which blossom growth, even when they involve intense struggle. It’s a theme stitched well into the album. Laying out a maze, attempting to discover an exit path, trying to cut through the uncertainty of life and the chaos of the world. Really though, aren’t we all?”

“Bed of Nails” is available across multiple platforms to stream here. Be sure to also check out their eye-catching music video for the single here. Another notable track I recommend is “Find My Way” featuring Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer. Relive the night via our photo gallery from their debut below:
