LAYNE is “Somebody” in Los Angeles

Silverlake transplant Layne Putnam has made a name for herself and her band in a short amount of time. The South Dakota native takes her creative blend of dark synthpop and indie rock and brings them together in an intoxicating mix.

A handful of Los Angeles natives came out to support LAYNE, as they played an intimate home town set at The Bootleg Theater.  The band was the direct support for Cub Sport, an indie, pop band hailing from Brisbane, Australia.

LAYNE performed their well known singles “Good” and “Somebody”, as well as other originals that had the same level of emotional depth.

Putnam was very friendly with the audience as she would take brief moments to address the crowd in between songs.  She used her wit and music to express what she describes as “the power of emotions”.

The band’s ambient, indie tone created a peaceful atmosphere within the venue.  The samples that were incorporated into the live set also helped fill the empty spaces the four piece band could not cover.

The best part of the show was the band’s stage presence.  The type of music LAYNE plays isn’t necessarily described as “energetic,” however, that did not stop Putnam and the rest of the band from moving their feet and expressing the music through physical gestures.

After a single live viewing of the band, it’s pretty apparent that this collective is not only extremely talented, but also destined for greatness.  The band knows what they are about and they are ready to take any necessary means to live out their dreams.

Do not sleep on LAYNE because the group will be selling out venues in no time.
