For the first time in what seems like a while Jay-Z has taken command of the hip-hop charts again. His latest album, “4:44,” has earned a mostly positive response. It went platinum almost immediately, and then became the artist’s 14th number one LP on the Billboard 200. Apparently, he now ranks behind only the Beatles, who had 19 number one albums. Bruce Springsteen and Barbara Streisand trail Jay-Z, with 11 each.
Naturally, the rapper is taking the show on the road, and he’s not messing around with the early dates. Jay-Z will be stopping in Las Vegas for one of the first shows on October 28th, and he’s sure to draw a fun and enthusiastic crowd there.
There’s something of a misconception out there that Las Vegas has become old-fashioned or even out of fashion. We know that internet poker tournaments have become incredibly popular (and lucrative). And slots and table games haven’t just migrated online, they’ve gone mobile as well. It’s so easy to play all these games from the comfort of your own home that it makes you wonder why you’d bother going to Vegas in the first place. Then Jay-Z comes to town.
It helps you remember what really makes this city so wild and special. The bright lights, eccentric attractions, luxury hotel rooms and high-end restaurants are intoxicating. The pools, bars and clubs make for a constant good time even for someone who never steps foot on a casino floor. Still, there’s nothing quite like winning it big and being treated like a high roller. For these and other reasons, Vegas has remained one of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S., and has actually seen increasing numbers of visitors of late. It’s not slowing down.
This is why the city still stands as one of the biggest concert destinations in the U.S. The best artists in the world still stop by regularly, with a few making a point of playing shows in Vegas every year. Additionally, the iHeartRadio Music Festival boasts a ridiculous lineup year in and year out, typically welcoming the most popular names in music. And of course, the concert venues, both at casino resorts and elsewhere, are equipped to handle big crowds and elite artists.
All of this adds up to this being a strategic stop for Jay-Z early on the “4:44” tour. He’ll be playing at the T-Mobile Arena, an indoor arena associated with MGM Resorts, having previously made himself at home at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It’s sure to be a sold out show, and could be one of the better concerts we have to look forward to in the fall of 2017.
