Greensville, South Carolina hard rock band Islander’s second album Power Under Control is their follow up to 2014’s Violence & Destruction. The entire album is a wide array of rock genres if there ever was one.
Opener “Darkness” brings the nu metal, metal, hard rock, rap, hardcore and more all into one with this single track. It’s an explosive mix of all the genres and the perfect way to sum of the rest of the album.
“Green Slime Man” is more of a hardcore punk song that is a perfect ingredient to this album. It’s short, quick, and to the point.
“Better Day” slows it down just a little bit, but not too much. This song along with “All We Need” keep the rock and roll going.
Turn the volume back up, get in the car, and get going once the intro of “Devil Red” begins. Singer Mikey Carvajal has an amazing voice that you know will translate even better live with all these tracks.
“Casket” is a highlight on the album. Carvajal shows off his skills with his clear and screaming lyrics throughout this gem.
This album is by no means one single genre. If you’re not a fan of rock before listening to this album, something is wrong with you. If you’re into a recipe for success of what a kick ass album should be in the rock genre, this is it! A definite “Album of the Year” contender for the hard rock / metal fan.
