Islander speaks on new album, Bad Brains, and more

Islander - Promo

Concert Crap: Power Under Control is out in a few weeks 8/5. What new and old things can we expect with this album?

Mikey Carvajal: You can expect the same love and passion and vocals. You can expect sharper song writing, according to Rolling Stone. Oh, and more pizza.

CC: Why does this album triumph Violence & Destruction?

MC: This album was made by best friends. And you can tell when listening.

CC: “Bad Guy”, “Think it Over” and “Darkness” are the first three songs and singles released from the album. Why did you decide to pick these three to tease fans with for the new album?

MC: We just wanted to give our fans something to bite into early. It’s been a couple of years and we knew they were hungry for some tunes. We would have been happy with any of the songs being put out first though. We love the entire album.

CC: The song “Think it Over” features HR of Bad Brains. Was this one of the people you guys always wanted to work with?

MC: For sure. He’s punk rock royalty. This is the second song we’ve recorded with him and we are just so grateful for him. He is a pioneer of this type of heavy music.

CC: If the new album had it’s own hashtag, besides the album title, what would it be?

MC: #LifeJustBecameAPizzaParty

CC: You guys incorporate rock, metal, nu metal, harcore, punk rock and all other types of genres into your songs. Is this a culmination of all the genres that you like?

MC: We don’t think about genres. We just want people to feel the way they do at Disney World or when they are eating pizza.

CC: What does the rest of 2016 hold for you guys?

MC: Tour, tour, tour, tour, tour, tour, tour.

CC: Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans or anyone that may be reading this interview?

MC: Thank you. We can’t be a band without you. Literally. We love you all.
