Invent, Animate’s new album Stillworld keeps the progressive metal at a high level from start to finish. This is the band’s third official release, and first since 2014’s Everchanger.
The band’s sound can be compared to Erra, Northlane, and Volumes, with the same fast, chugging, engine like guitar work, complete with quick hitting breakdown and aggressive screaming and clean vocals throughout.
“Solace” lets the instruments of the band shine. “Dead Roots” is one of the best on the album, as well as “Celestial Floods”, which pits you in the front seat of who exactly is Invent, Animate in all their glory.
Nearly every song has a fast and slow part. It can get a little repetitive for some, but it does work well if you’re a metal fan.
The album artwork is similar to their last album, only this time it’s a “White Wolf” (also the title of a song), surrounded by slowly terrain in winter staring at the half moon instead of a glowing silhouette of a man. It seems as through the band is going through the seasons with these past two albums. Can we see spring on the next album cover? We’ll have to wait and see.
