Interview: Speaking with metal band Threatpoint

Concert Crap: Can you talk about a brief history of the band?

CJ Kurkowski: Sure, the band formed in early 2012. CJ and I were in a band that had just broken up and Chris’ band at the time had just broken up as well. We knew each other for a few years since our old bands used to play together. Our bassist Matt is actually the one that told Chris we were looking for a singer, that’s where the initial seed for the band was planted. We’ve had many line-up changes through the years and now Matt is officially a part of the band. It’s very fitting since he’s the one that pretty much put the band together.

CC: What does your band name mean?

CJK: We were throwing around ideas, one person had an idea with the word “threat” and another idea had the word “point” in it. So we just decided to combine the two. To my knowledge there’s no cool meaning or back-story, we just wanted to come up with a cool one-word band name and that was the one that stuck out the most.

CC: Who are some of your musical inspirations?

CJK: Some of the bands we like and draw inspiration from are Metallica, Testament, In Flames, Devildriver and Killswitch Engage. We listen to all types of music outside of metal as well. We try to blend all of our influences in our sound to make it a little bit different than the typical new-age metal band.

CC: Who would you like to tour with realistically and un realistically?

CJK: For me personally I’d love to tour with Trivium. They’ve been one of my favorite bands since I was in high school and are still a big inspiration for me to this day. Obviously we can’t just tag-along with them on tour, but it’s definitely possible to share the stage with them at some point in time.

CC: What does the rest of 2016 have in store for you guys?

CJK: Taking a little hiatus for the time being and spending time with family and friends. We have a few local gigs booked and will start writing again sometime in the near future.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans or anyone that may be reading this interview at all?

CJK: To anyone who has supported us in any way, shape or form…THANK YOU. Without fans buying merch or coming to shows, this band wouldn’t even exist. We’re always trying to branch out to new places and people, help spread the word!
