Concert Crap: How does the pop punk scene differ from here in California than Maryland?
Something More: The pop punk scene in California is as similar as it is different from the Maryland scene. There is a strong sense of community in both scenes, which is something that is extremely important to us. We think there is a strong, young, local fanbase in Maryland that California might not have access to because of the size of the state being so much larger than Maryland.
CC: Do you ever feel pressure since you are from All Time Low’s hometown?
SM: We don’t think we’ve ever felt pressure from being from the same place All Time Low is from, but they definitely had a huge influence on us as young musicians when we were first starting out. Sometimes we do get compared to them just because of where we are from or because our live show has tons of energy and life, but we all take that as a giant compliment.
CC: What is the best part about touring?
SM: The best part of touring for us is playing shows every night to people we’ve met before and people we haven’t. We get to travel around and see places that we never thought we’d see with our best friends. Also having really good friends that are all across the country is very cool; it’s always a huge party since we aren’t always around.
CC: If you could collaborate with anyone in the game who would it be and why?
SM: We would love to collaborate with Brendon Urie. He is an amazing musician and has been in every part of the music industry. We would love to pick his brain about music and collaborate with him in any way.
CC: What do you think 2017 has in store for Something More, and for the pop punk scene?
SM: 2017 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for Something More. We just released a music video for “It’s Not About You Pt. II” feat. Tillie and are releasing our deluxe edition of our EP Dogs Pt II on April 14th. Our plan is to be touring as much as possible, and writing and recording new music. We are playing So What?! Music Fest and heading out with Warped Tour again as a catering band, which will finish out our spring and summer. We will be working on a new record and music when we get home.
CC: Is there anything you have in store for fans to look forward to?
SM: Looking forward we have preorder packages for Dogs Pt II available right now at commongroundrecords.com, as well as new merch, new music and more tours to be announced soon!
CC: Anything else you’d like to say to fans or anyone reading this interview?
SM: We just want to thank everyone that has ever come out to a show, let us crash on your floor, and supported us in any way. We would truly not be able to do what we do without you. If you do come out to a show, please talk with us and get to know us. Also, continue to support your local music scene. It is vitally important to have a strong scene and it starts by going to shows and building that community.
