Interview: Below speaks on new album

Concert Crap: You guys are releasing your new album Upon A Pale Horse on May 19. How did this album come about?

Doc: It came about really well, we had been writing the songs for quite some time and we feel that we have really grown as songwriters. Our debut Across The Dark River is, in my opinion, a really good album, but we felt and knew that we could top that, I really think that we have taken it up a few levels with this one. We had a lot of material while writing this so we where able to keep the songs pretty diverse and strong.

CC: What is your favorite and least favorite part of releasing an album?

D: I really don’t think there are any downsides. Sure, it’s a bit stressful but as a musician all I want is for other people to hear my music, and to play my music in front of all those people. So in that sense releasing an album is one of the best things I know, I love everything from the reviews, to these interviews, but of course the main thing is to hear the response from the people who likes your music and your musicianship.

CC: If there’s one thing you could change about this album, what would it be?

D: I can´t really think of anything, you might have to give me a year or two, that´s usually when I hear stuff that I want to change.

CC: This is only your second full-length album release, but compared to the other music you’ve released, is it your favorite? Why?

D: Yes, but I do like all music that I have released. Perhaps as you grow and evolve your music will follow, and the most recent thing you have been part of is the one that will fit your taste at the moment the best? It might not be that way for everyone, but for me I think that might be just the thing.

CC: What can we expect from Below after the album releases?

D: Hopefully a lot of live shows, we have only played in Europe so far so we really hope to widen our range of course, perhaps someone reading this gets interested and wants to book us. And you can also expect more music of course.

CC: Is there anything you would like to add to this interview?

D: Well, I would like to tell the readers to check us out, even if they don´t usually listen to Doom, give it a shot!

You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (@belowmetal) . Other than that just keep supporting the metal scene, go to the shows, buy the records, it’s the fans who keep it alive.
