Fucking Werewolf Asso’s Dennis Wedin on band name, genre, and influences

Fucking Werewolf Asso - Promo

When you hear a band name, sometimes you jump to conclusions on what kind of music that name exudes.  With Fucking Werewolf Asso (FWA), expect the unexpected.

One of the band members told us who is in the band you probably don’t know anything about [yet].

FWA is me (Dennis [Wedin]) on vocals and keys, Martin [Svensson] on drums, Peter [Rasmusson] on guitar and keys, and Björn on bass,” said Wedin.  “It started out as my solo project but we have added a member for each release.”

Don’t be scared by the band name.  Swedish spazz-core, their genre, is no joke either.

Asso is a swedish word,” said Wedin.  “I guess the best way to describe it is that it works as a exclamation mark, so you could see it as Fucking Werewolf!.  Describing a genre is hard, but the best way to get spazz-core is to drip by our bandcamp and listen to a few tunes.

Their latest release, Why do you Love Me Satan, was just put out a few weeks ago and Wedin talked all about it.

“WDYLMS is based on that times of your life when everything you do goes to hell, and turns out to be a waste of time, and the people involved were not who they first appeared to be,” said Wedin.  “It’s a very dark and angry album, and a reaction to the more devastating parts of your life.”

The best way for FWA to get out there is to do the thing everyone has been doing.

“[We want to] play live as much as possible because that is when we truly shine,” said Wedin. “Working with people that like what we do and try to build a network with fans.  I guess the same way most bands do it.  Hopefully it works for us!”

The band is planning on touring in other countries, but they are mainly working and playing in their home country.

“We are working on coming back to America, we played SXSW this year, and I think it will be possible with a bit more planning, but right now it’s mostly Sweden that others will get the chance to see us.”

The band has many inspirations from artists that they love, but most is more natural.

“I think Blood brothers and Death from Above have always been big influences, but the big inspiration is just to play the songs that comes out when we write,” said Wedin.  “I guess that is why every record we made sounds a bit different from each other as we try out new things all the time.”

And for the final thoughts on FWA, here is Wedin.

“FWA is the dialogue you have with your ex,” said Wedin.  “FWA is the crackling sound of you getting older.  FWA is the ringtone when your lover calls.”
