If you were looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on St. Patrick’s Day, you would have found a big one at The Hollywood Palladium. Flogging Molly hosted their St. Patrick’s Day show in Hollywood Thursday night, following a free outdoor festival in the afternoon complete with Irish dancing, food, games and more. The LA/Dublin-based seven member band recently released their first new music in years, titled “These Times Have Got Me Drinking” just in time for the festive holiday.

Opening the show were The Vandoliers (think punk rock, but on the ranch) and Russkaja (European based, their first ever time in the United States) – both major crowdpleasers. The crowd radiated a feel-good energy from the moment the supporting acts hit the stage all the way through the final song of the night. Flogging Molly kicked off the show with their most popular song “Drunken Lullabies” and surely couldn’t have been a better song to rev us up. With such a diverse instrumental lineup, we couldn’t help but to feel transported to a different moment in time for the night. The traditional Celtic sound meshed with punk foundation is what makes Flogging Molly really stand out – and what better time to shine other than St. Patrick’s Day?

The 19 song setlist included an array of songs from the band’s discography, along with a stellar cover of “We Will Rock You” by Queen. Flogging Molly made sure that everyone in the room felt Irish at least for one night. The unmatched enthusiasm and zest had the entire audience on their feet and hands in the air. From a dance-led circle pit to a mini conga line, it is safe to say the show may have been the best way to spend St. Patrick’s Day. Californians can relive St. Patrick’s Day all over again through March 26th, while the band continues on a few more stops along the coast before jumping aboard their Salty Dog Cruise which sails from Miami to the Bahamas over the course of five days. The band will return with The Interrupters in the summer and fall for a longer string of US dates, as listed below:
