Emerging indie rock band Creature Canyon dropped into Los Angeles Thursday night (March 3) and delivered an energetic performance to a welcoming crowd at Resident. Formed in San Diego, Creature Canyon encapsulates the fiery energy of indie/alternative rock with waves of modern psychedelia. The band consists of members Austin Steele (vocals, guitar), Ryan Amyot (guitar), Kyle Victoria (drums), Aaron Lund (bass), and Luc Fralic (keyboards, percussion).

Los Angeles was a midway stop on the band’s short west coast tour, which started February 24 in San Francisco. The venue filled up quickly with an eager crowd consisting of both new and familiar faces. There seemed to be an outpour of support from friends as well as others who have been following the band for some time now. Creature Canyon were full of feel good energy and effortlessly spread it through the room like wildfire. The guys danced and played their way into the crowd on a few occasions, fueling the carefree environment around them. Their setlist (which had everyone grooving on the floor) consisted of older songs as well as their most recently released song. Some must-listen songs included “Hot Streak,” “Hurricane,” and “Take What You Want” amongst others.

The band’s newest single “Pressure” is a follow-up to their prior EPs Life I Know and Did You Want That. With the help of a notable studio team, Creature Canyon’s latest music will have you clicking repeat after listening for the first time. Prominent contributors to their new material are: producer Christian Lum (Private Island), recording engineer Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young the Giant), mixing engineer Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastering engineer Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys). Elements from these artists can be nostalgically recognized tucked away amongst the dreamy layers of Creature Canyon’s instrumentals and vocal stylization. “Pressure” seeks to offer a light at the end of the tunnel for anyone struggling to break free of bad habits, routines, or relationships. It reassures us that these personal and life challenges are not easy and require strength to overcome.

While their tour wrapped up Saturday night, keep on the lookout for future dates. With new music in hand, we hope to see more of Creature Canyon soon. “Pressure” is available on most streaming platforms along with the music video, which is available to watch here via YouTube. You can keep up with Creature Canyon by following them on their Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
