As the year comes to a close, I always like looking back on the best parts of it. So much new music came out this year, but these are my eight top albums of 2018.
Story Untold – Waves
Once Waves was released, Story Untold immediately became one of my favorite bands. This is an album that you’ll want to listen from start to finish, from the upbeat “In Or Out,” to the somber “Chasing Feelings.” While I love every song on here and it’s nearly impossible for me to pick favorites, the standout tracks to me are “The 3ND,” “Dreams That We Don’t Share,” and “All The Same (Once A Liar, Always A Liar).”
Fever 333 – Made in America
I got into this band a bit late, but I am really glad I found this EP. With a recent Grammy nomination and their debut album releasing early in 2019, Fever 333 is a band that you’re going to want to watch. Their fast-paced music goes along perfectly with the wild show they put on when performing live. Listen to “We’re Coming In,” “(The First Stone) Changes,” and “Walking In My Shoes.”
Escape The Fate – I Am Human
I Am Human is Escape The Fate’s sixth album, and it has a good balance of slower ballads and faster, heavier songs. I love the monumental guitar solos and relatable lyrics. I’d recommend checking out “Four Letter Word,” “Riot,” and “Resistance.”
From Ashes To New – The Future
Since their last release, From Ashes To New has gone through some lineup changes, but they are back and better than ever. The Future perfectly mixes rap and rock to form their signature sound and proves that this band is here to stay. Check out “My Name,” “Enemy,” and “Nowhere to Run.”
Halestorm – Vicious
With their fourth album, Halestorm has earned themselves another Grammy nomination, this time for the title track off of the album. Even though that’s a great song, Vicious has so much more to offer, including the current single, “Do Not Disturb.” I also love the slower songs, “Heart of Novocaine” and “The Silence.” With Halestorm being nominated for a Grammy in the same category as Fever 333, I can’t pick a favorite, but I am definitely going to be following the award ceremony this year.
As It Is – The Great Depression
With this album that came out in August, As It Is switched up their sound a bit. Fans seem to love The Great Depression, and a story is told throughout its lyrics. The songs cover some important topics, and my favorite tracks are “The Great Depression,” “The Wounded World,” and “The Stigma (Boys Don’t Cry).”
The Faim – Summer Is a Curse
Quite a few months before this EP dropped in September, I’d found a video for “Saints of the Sinners” on YouTube, and that immediately became one of my favorite songs. Needless to say, I was eagerly awaiting more music from The Faim, and this EP did not disappoint. Even though there are only six songs, I can put Summer Is a Curse on repeat for hours and not get bored. My recommendations are to listen to “A Million Stars,” “Make Believe,” and “My Heart Needs To Breathe.”
Beartooth – Disease
Nearly every song on Disease is fast and heavy, making you want to get up and move. It is obvious that Beartooth has grown since their first album came out in 2014. Some of my favorites on Disease are “You Never Know,” “Bad Listener,” and “Manipulation.”
