Paramore – After Laughter

Out of all the albums on this list this has been the most frequently listened to. I was so excited to hear new Paramore that I woke up at 5 AM to hear the premier of “Hard Times” on the radio. From front to back, the songs on After Laughter are some of the most honest tunes I’ve heard from a band in a long time. Hayley, Taylor and Zac worked hard on an album that has cemented itself into one of my favorite albums ever.

Lights – Skin & Earth

Not only did I like this album because of the music but also because Lights wrote a comic book to go along with this album. I’ve never heard of an artist doing something like that and it takes a lot of work. This album has a lot of moments in it that make you feel powerful and the music is so catchy. My favorite songs on this album are “Morphine” and “Kicks”.

Aaron Sprinkle – Real Life

I didn’t know much about Aaron Sprinkle except that he’s worked on almost every Tooth & Nail release ever. I was listening to a podcast called Labelled and Aaron was on and he was talking about his new album. I decided to check it out. It’s pretty different from most of the new music that I’ve heard this year and for that reason it stood out to me.

Phoebe Bridgers – Stranger In The Alps

This was an album that I had been waiting on for a while. I think I started listening to Phoebe Bridgers right after her EP was released, it was only 3 songs and I wanted more songs. Stranger In The Alps was Bridgers’ debut album and it features some of the songs from the EP along with new songs. My favorites are “Funeral” and “Would You Rather” which features Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes.

Feel Something – Movements

Another debut album that I was anticipating. I had the chance to go see Movements at Chain Reaction before the album was released or announced. They played a song which would go on to be called “Deadly Dull” and said it would be on their new album. Hearing that song made me stoked to hear what else the band had been working on. I’m really happy with what Movements has done since the first time I saw them a few years ago.

Infinite Regress – Quiet

Infinite Regress is from a band called Quiet that are local to Orange County. I hadn’t heard of these guys until I actually started paying attention to my local music scene. I like this album because each song is long and changes a lot from beginning to end. I really recommend you check out this band if your into emo/punk.

Halfnoise – Velvet Face EP

Zac Farro of Paramore has another band that he’s the lead singer of called Halfnoise and they released this EP. “Scooby’s In The Back” starts off the EP and it automatically pulls you in. By the end of the song you’ll be dancing and wondering if anyone ever let Scooby in. My favorite song is “As U Wave”, not only is it slower than the others but it features Hayley Williams singing with Zac Farro and it’s perfection.
