January 25th, 2023: Alter bridge and company kicked off their Pawns & Kings Tour in sunny side Tampa, Florida! Opening acts consisted of RED and Mammoth WVH. Both opening acts put on a great show.
It was my first time seeing Mammoth WVH, which features the son (Wolfgang) of the late Eddie Van Halen. I was amazed by his singing and guitar skills. Clearly a spark of his father’s greatness on the guitar.
Alter Bridge delivered an electrifying performance to say the least. The band’s seamless blend of hard rock and heavy metal was on full display as they powered through a setlist of fan favorites and new material from the Pawns & Kings album.
Lead vocalist Myles Kennedy’s impressive range was a highlight of the evening, as he effortlessly switched between powerful screams and melodic singing. Guitarists Mark Tremonti and Brian Marshall also shone, delivering shredding solos and tight harmonies.
The crowd was fully engaged throughout the concert, singing along to all the classic hits such as “Blackbird”, “Watch Over You”, and their iconic single “Metalingus”.
Alter Bridge also treated the Tampa crowd with debut performances of the songs “Holiday” and “Stay”.
While the venue itself was small/intimate, their tonal sound and presence filled up the room, making it larger than what it was.
