Album Review: World War Me – “World War Me”

World War Me

On October 6, World War Me released their debut self-titled album. This five-piece band is from Chicago, Illinois. Their album is produced by Get Scared’s lead singer, Nicholas Matthews.

The album opens with “The Good Enough.” After a slower introduction, the rest of the instruments fade in. This song, like most of the others, definitely gives me a My Chemical Romance-vibe. “Break a Leg Kid” becomes familiar to you after you hear it for the first time. The sound is very catchy, and lines like “so break a leg kid, you’re falling apart,” are sure to get stuck in your head. Featuring Nicholas Matthews, “Escape” almost has a smoother sound than other songs on the album. This is one of my favorite tracks, along with the next, “Fire and Flames.” That one has a faster, poppy beat. Even though the song sounds upbeat, the lyrics are still pretty dark.

Another catchy, familiar song is “That’s so Yesterday.” “War Zone” has a tempo that is a bit slower than the other tracks, but it is still just as heavy. The title track has a heavy start, with a dramatic sound that in maintained throughout the whole song. “Color Me Sick” closes out the album. This is a slow, acoustic track about a relationship ending. This is another of my favorites, and it is a peaceful way to end the album.

World War Me is definitely an album that you’ll want to keep listening to. You can put it on repeat without getting annoyed. All the songs grow on you and sound familiar after one listen. I’m really glad that I stumbled across this album as a pre-order on Amazon, as this is one of my favorite releases of the season.
