Album Review: Tremonti – “A Dying Machine”

black marble texture

I have a confession: I have not been the biggest fan of Tremonti in the past. While the band has released a few songs that I have enjoyed, I have always felt that there seems to be a piece of the puzzle missing from the music. A Dying Machine changed that. This album – the fourth studio release from the band – has that something special about it that previous releases have been missing for me. It has everything you could want from a Tremonti release; the amazing guitar, strong drums, thudding bass, and top-notch vocals are not only prevalent but better than on any of the previous albums. This album feels well-rounded and is Tremonti’s best release yet.

Opening track “Bringer of War” is head-bang worthy. The drums are militant with interesting guitar throughout. “Make It Hurt” is one of the best tracks on the album. There is an almost symphonic element to it, especially in the chorus. It is a song that goes fast and hard; if I were to create my ideal Tremonti setlist, this would be one of my top choices. “As The Silence Becomes Me” is impressive; this was actually the track that changed my mind about Tremonti. Performing the heavier songs requires a lot of work, but songs like this are so easy to get wrong, that they are more impressive when performed correctly. Despite being the second-longest track on the album, it never gets boring; in fact, it makes you want to put it on repeat. “Desolation” is another striking track on the album.

A Dying Machine is the best album from Tremonti yet.
