Album Review: The Faim – ‘Summer Is a Curse’

On September 7, The Faim dropped their debut EP, Summer Is a Curse. This Australian band is just getting started. Before this EP, they had released a couple of singles, “Midland Line” and “Saints of the Sinners,” the latter of which is my favorite.

The title track came out a couple of months ago. This song fades in and starts with a steady beat that is persistent throughout the next three minutes. Even if summer is over, “Summer Is A Curse” will still get stuck in your head. “A Million Stars” tells a story within its lyrics. It has a Panic! at the Disco vibe going on, as well as some reggae influences thrown in throughout it. The next song, “Make Believe,” is slower and has a sound that was immediately familiar to me.

“I Can Feel You” is a song that flows well and feels shorter than it is. I’ve made this comparison already, but Josh Raven’s vocals in this track are really reminiscent of Brendon Urie’s. “My Heart Needs To Breathe” is probably my favorite on Summer Is A Curse. It’s fast and has a chorus perfect for singing along to. The EP closes with “When It Comes.” While this song is still upbeat and poppy, it’s slightly slower than the other tracks.

Summer Is a Curse is a great introduction to this new group. The Faim is a band that you’re going to want to keep an eye on, as I can tell that they’re going to get big soon. Links to buy their EP can be found on their website here.
