Album Review: Sons of Texas – “Forged by Fortitude”

Some albums make me wish I could see the band live immediately. Sons of Texas newest album Forged by Fortitude is one of those. The album is dirty rock and roll at its finest.

“Down In The Trenches” is fast-paced, heavy, and really good. The vocals are gritty, which adds to the attitude of the song. The song is powerful from beginning to end. “Beneath the Riverbed” is one of my favorite songs on this album and the one I’ve played the most so far. It’s very melodic and I genuinely love the lyrics. There’s also a good back and forth between the guitar and the vocals and the drums are perfect throughout the entire song.

“Wasp Woman” is another one of my favorites. The first thing I noticed on this song were the vocals because this song shows off how talented the vocalist is. The chorus is fun to sing, but try keeping up with that quick movement between notes. Also, there are some notes held for quite an amount of time, especially towards the end. The guitar solo is a lot of fun, plus the attitude of the song is perfect.

“Slam With The Lights On” almost doesn’t seem like it belongs on this album, at first, because the intro is much more that classic southern rock sound than the rest of the album, but it’s a great song and has the best guitar on the entire album; I actually like the sound of this song best on the entire album.

It’s a great mix between the heavy and the melodic and definitely the most interesting musically. Overall, Sons of Texas has a really good release on their hands with Forged by Fortitude and I am absolutely dying to see them perform live.
