On September 29th, six-piece rock band Plan Three released their second full-length album, Wish I Was Stormborne. The band formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2000, and this is their first release in years, following their debut album, Screaming Our Sins, in 2009, and an EP, The Signal – Part One, in 2011.
The first song on the album is “Welcome to the Edge.” My first impression of it was that it is a lot more upbeat than Plan Three’s earlier music. That new sound is heard on most of Wish I Was Stormborne. While this song is definitely lighter than what I expected, I still like it. “The Otherside” begins in sort of the same way, though it sounds a bit more like the band’s previous work. The chorus in this song is pretty catchy. “Carl Sagan” is a slow, somber song, filled with astronomical references.
Another song that has more of an electronic influence is “Unveil the Unknown.” This one does get a bit heavier in the chorus. “Where Do We Go from Here,” has more of a rock sounds, while still fitting in with the rest of the record. The album closes with “When Everything Comes To An End.” This song was released in 2014 as a single. It has a dramatic sound, especially in the chorus. I feel like this song was a good way for the band to blend their newer sound with their older work.
Overall, I think all the songs on this album fit together really well. It’s been some time since Plan Three has released any music, and this new album perfectly highlights how they have matured over the years.
