Album Review: Escape The Fate – “I Am Human”

ETF

On March 30th, Escape The Fate released their sixth studio album, I Am Human. This is a follow up to the band’s 2015 record, Hate Me. The release date for I Am Human was pushed back a bit from what it was originally, which only served to build more anticipation among fans.

“Beautifully Tragic” opens up the album. It catches your attention from the first note, and it keeps your attention until the end. Escape The Fate played “Four Letter Word” live when they toured with I Prevail this past fall. Since I heard the song then, it’s really grown on me. The title track has a slower start before building up to a chorus that will have you singing along in no time. “If Only” is a slow ballad. The lyrics are easy to visualize, and Craig Mabbitt’s vocals truly shine through on this song.

Joe Cotela from Ded is featured on “Recipe For Disaster,” which is a heavier track that is sure to get stuck in your head. “Riot” is a fast paced song with a guitar solo at the start. It definitely makes you want to turn the volume up and put it on repeat. This is one of my favorites on the record. The sound on this track is a bit different that Escape The Fate’s previous work, but it closes in a way that’s reminiscent of their earlier music. “Resistance” has an introduction that makes it seem like it would be such a great song to hear live. The beat in the verses is very catchy. The song fades to a close with a siren.

After listening to it quite a few times, I Am Human is well on its way to becoming one of my favorite releases of the year. This album is filled with impressive guitar solos and lyrics that nearly everybody should be able to relate to.
