Album Review: Distant Bonds – “Self-Titled EP”

Drop whatever you are listening to right now because Distant Bonds is about to explode onto the scene. Their self-titled debut EP is a really interesting mix of western alternative rock, but there’s also a really interesting Japanese influence that comes from vocalist Ray Hikari, who resides in both London and Japan. The EP starts off with a bang with “Chuck The Bass,” one of the best tracks on the entire EP. The intro is pure rock ‘n roll and the attitude continues into the rest of the song. It is super energetic, the type of track that you just have to blast at full volume. The lyrics of “Defender” are amazing, simple and uncomplicated, but powerful. This is actually true of the entire EP; it never pretends to be more than it is and thus achieves a lot. “Our Souls” is more of an underrated track, but definitely not one to be ignored. The chorus towards the end of the song, where you hear all of the voices singing together, is outstanding and makes the track really special.

Distant Bonds have done an excellent job of creating something special. It is more than just another EP from another band who dreams of making it big. You can hear that Distant Bonds poured their heart and soul into every note of this EP and they will definitely reap the rewards of their hard work in the near future. This album is recommended to everyone who wants to be able to say that they were fans of the next big band before anyone else knew about them.
