Album Review: Creeper – “Eternity, In Your Arms”

Creeper’s first full-length album Eternity, In Your Arms has everything you could want in an album: dynamic harmonies, slamming drums, guitar solos, and pure talent. From the first note, it’s clear that this album will take Creeper very far.

The vocals on this album are diverse, unique, colorful, and very interesting. Will Gould has a voice that is instantly recognizable as his and he has great control over it. When keyboardist Hannah Greenwood takes over the vocals, as in “Crickets”, you hear just how dynamic and enchanting her voice is. Gould’s and Greenwood’s voices work so well together that they make each other sound better, such as in “Black Rain”.

The music on this album is just as amazing as the vocals. Greenwood on the keys, guitarists Ian Miles and Oliver Burdett, bassist Sean Scott, and drummer Dan Bratton work together like the most perfectly well-oiled machine you could imagine. They all know exactly when it’s time to shine, but they’re also perfect at taking a step back when it is necessary. This creates a great sound, which can be heard really well in the instrumental in “Winona Forever”.

Creeper is at its best when everyone is performing together as the harmony that is created is unreal. “Black Rain”, “Down Below”, and “I Choose to Live” are great examples of this and the best songs on this album because of this harmony.

The most interesting thing about Eternity, In Your Arms is the fact that, despite that this is the band’s first full-length album release, they already have the stadium sound. This is an album that needs to be cranked all the way up and listened to over and over again. It’s safe to say that based off of this album, Creeper is the next great British band.
