On December 15, Asking Alexandria released their fifth, self-titled album on Sumerian Records. After a short break from the band, this was Danny Worsnop’s first record back with the band.
The album opens with “Alone In A Room.” The song starts with a slow introduction, with all of the instruments coming together. It’s pretty catchy, and this track definitely made me want to listen to the rest of the album. Next is “Into The Fire,” the first single off of Asking Alexandria. This song has been getting radio airplay for a couple of months, and there is a radio edit, which is missing a verse that the original version has. “Where Did It Go?” is another very catchy song on the album. This is one of my favorites. Worsnop’s vocals in the verses almost sound like he’s rapping. The song fades to a close with a haunting laugh that sort of reminds me of David Draiman’s. “Vultures” is a slow, acoustic song. Worsnop’s strong vocals are really showcased here, and you can hear the emotion in the words that he is singing.
After that is “Eve,” which fades in with a slow introduction. After about 30 seconds, it launches into a heavy sound and unclean vocals. I personally think that this is the heaviest track on the album, even though there are some electronic elements infused throughout the song. “Empire,” stands out a bit from the rest of the album, as it features rapper Bingx, and it softer than the other songs. The album closes with “Room 138.” This is a fast-paced song that has an underlying electronic sound. The song is slow at times, but it does get heavier in the bridge, before slowing down again and fading to a close, after the line “please pull me out of this.”
After listening to this album, I really want to see Asking Alexandria live, which is what I think a record should encourage you to do. They start touring a couple of weeks into the new year, and all of their tour dates can be found here.
