Saturday night started off with a bang at the House of Blues in Houston. The Good Enough Tour was finally here and World’s First Cinema and Taylor Acorn were ready to play to a sold-out crowd.

If you aren’t familiar with World’s First Cinema, you need to stop what you are doing and go listen to their entire discography. Their deluxe EP, Palm Reader (Silver Screen Edition) plays into their name by adding in interludes that they created to prelude their songs to make it feel like you are in a movie. And not only does the EP feel like a soundtrack to a Christopher Nolan movie, but their music video also feels very cinematic. We aren’t familiar with any artist or band who is doing it like World’s First Cinema.

Before the show even started, we got the chance to sit down with John Sinclair and Fil Thorpe and ask them about their favorite songs from their recent release, Palm Reader (Silver Screen Edition), which songs they like to play live, and how the tour has been so far!

B: My current favorite song of yours is “Holy Water,” but it honestly fluctuates depending on my mood. What was your favorite song during the writing process and what is your favorite song right now after getting to perform them on tour?
F: Honestly, “Holy Water” was one of my favorite ones to write. That one kind of happened organically and it was really fun. I remember that one coming together and then playing live would be “SOS.”
J: I think my favorite one during the recording process was “Can’t Feel Anything” because it was [one of] the first songs we worked on together. I sent a very chicken scratch idea and Fil just sent back the most rocky EDM thing and I was like, “It’s all going to work out.” That’s when I knew. So to me, that was my favorite process, cause I still remember that feeling. To perform, “Young Beast,” because it’s easy to sing.

B: Today is the last day of The Good Enough Tour with Taylor Acorn. Is there something from this tour that is going to stick out to you when you go on future tours?
F: Probably the off days. We’ve had some really good off days [with the Taylor Acorn crew].
J: Smoking cigars during a lightning storm. And the shows are fun!

After getting to chat with World’s First Cinema, we were ready for the show to begin! Starting off with “Intro” and going into “Hold My Own,” John’s violin skills were out and captivating the audience in Houston. The production behind the track was awe-spiring and we could feel the momentum building and just knew this would be an incredible show.

The way John and Fil created this setlist to play all of their hit songs, but also adding in the interludes from Palm Reader (Silver Screen Edition) was genius. We could really feel the ebb and flow throughout the setlist and were completely mesmerized by the talent on that stage. After getting to see World’s First Cinema open for Taylor Acorn, we are now ready for them to go onto their own headline tour, so we can see a full 1.5 hour set from this talented band.
