It may have seemed like just another Tuesday night in Madison, WI, but this night was packed full of heavy music thanks to a nearly sold-out show at The Sylvee. Fans packed the house to see Wage War, NOTHING MORE, Veil of Maya, and Sleep Theory who all put on incredible performances.
Starting off the night was Sleep Theory. They may have a name that conjures dreamy soundscapes, but their live show is anything but. The opener’s performance was a full-on assault of catchy hooks, pulsating rhythms, and enough energy to power a small city. If you’re looking for a band that brings the energy and isn’t afraid to push boundaries, then Sleep Theory is a must-see. Their live show is a powerful and exhilarating experience that will leave you wanting to hit replay.
Next up was Veil of Maya, who instantly brought the thunder (or should we say djent?) during their performance. From the opening riff to the final breakdown, the band showcased their impressive musicianship and relentless energy. Veil of Maya’s live show is a must-see for any fan of technical metal. Their musicianship is phenomenal, their energy is infectious, and their setlist is a perfect blend of old and new. If you have the chance to catch them on tour, don’t miss it – you’re in for a treat (or a brutal beatdown, depending on how you see it).
After two incredible performances, it was NOTHING MORE’s turn to deliver a mesmerizing performance that pushed the boundaries of what a live show can be. With their innovative blend of hard rock, alternative metal, and progressive elements, NOTHING MORE proved themselves to be true masters of their craft, captivating the audience from start to finish.
Taking the stage amidst a backdrop of pulsating lights and swirling smoke, NOTHING MORE wasted no time in launching into their set with explosive energy. Frontman Jonny Hawkins commanded the stage with charisma and intensity, his powerful vocals soaring over the intricate layers of sound created by his bandmates. Guitarist Mark Vollelunga unleashed a barrage of riffs that were both heavy and melodic, effortlessly transitioning between crushing rhythms and soaring leads. The chemistry between bassist Daniel Oliver and drummer Ben Anderson was undeniable, as they locked into tight grooves and intricate rhythms that kept the audience on their toes.
But what truly set NOTHING MORE apart was their innovative use of unconventional instruments and technology. Throughout the night, the band incorporated everything from custom-built percussion rigs to digital sampling pads, creating a multi-dimensional sound that was both captivating and unique. Highlights of the set included fan favorites like “Go to War” and “This is the Time (Ballast),” which inspired sing-alongs and fist-pumping anthems. However, it was during the performance of “Jenny” that the band truly shined, as Jonny delivered a raw and emotional rendition of the song that resonated deeply with the audience.
NOTHING MORE’s concert was a masterclass in live performance. With their dynamic stage presence, innovative musicianship, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what a live show can be, they proved themselves to be true trailblazers in the world of rock music.
After much anticipation, the stage was set on fire as Wage War unleashed a ferocious performance that left the audience in awe. With a potent blend of raw energy, powerful melodies, and bone-crushing breakdowns, Wage War proved why they are one of the most exciting bands in the metalcore scene today. From the moment they stepped on stage, they commanded attention with their powerful presence and tight musicianship. The crowd erupted into a frenzy as they kicked off the set with “Stitch,” setting the tone for an unforgettable night of heavy music.
Vocalist Briton Bond‘s brutal screams cut through the air like a knife, conveying raw emotion and intensity with every word. Guitarists Seth Blake and Cody Quistad unleashed a barrage of riffs that were both punishing and melodic, seamlessly weaving intricate melodies with crushing breakdowns. Their chemistry on stage was palpable, as they shredded through tracks like “Low” and “The River” with precision and passion.
With their explosive energy, flawless musicianship, and genuine passion for their craft, they proved why they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of metalcore. As the final notes rang out and the lights dimmed, the echoes of their performance lingered, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to bear witness. From start to finish, all four bands put on incredible shows that showcased their love for the music as well as their passionate fans.
