robbietheused has released his latest single “The Feels” which is the follow-up to his first single “Just A little Bit” which came out in June. This is the solo project of longtime The Used frontman Bert McCracken.
“The Feels” is a bit of a departure for McCracken. It’s not a secret that he has struggled with mental issues over the years which has shown up in his lyrics which have been on the darker side. He turned 40 a couple of years ago and sometimes you wonder whether he will make it to 50. However, the electro pop style of his two latest songs as robbietheused have been brighter and more uplifting than his work with The Used which is encouraging.
“I was inspired by all generations of pop—I love ’80s pop, ’90s pop and early-2000s pop,” he says, “I love today’s pop as well,” shares robbietheused.
robbietheused worked with long time The Used producer John Feldmann on his recent material. The two have known each other for two decades with Feldmann producing eight of The Used’s albums. The pair spent week-long studio sessions recording one song every day.
“In the morning, we’d talk about how we’re feeling and what’s on our minds on that day,” he explains. “And ask, ‘How’s the mental health? How’s the vibes?’ And then we’d formulate a song around that. It was almost like a therapy session, where I’d really get to talk about anything that’s on my mind, and then make a song about it.”
Speaking about “The Feels”, robbietheused says “This song was inspired by my on-going battle with mental health and is about learning to lean into love and acceptance. It was written in 2022 with John Feldmann and I’m so happy to finally share it with you. peace and love <3.”
