Some songs find you at the exact right moment.
Brittany Bexton’s latest single, “I Remember You” is that song. It isn’t just another track from one of Nashville’s hottest up-and-coming songwriters; it’s more than that. It’s a song that, I’m not afraid to say, almost had me crying on first listen. Not just because it’s beautiful (it is) but because of the strength of meaning behind it. Because it is friendship, in all its beautiful complications, wrapped up in the sentiment that matters the most: I will be there for you, even when you can’t be there for yourself.
Because that’s what true friendship is.
“We all go through difficult times,” says Bexton, “and when we do it’s important to have the right voices around us. The friends that will tell us the truth and remind us who we are in the midst of our pain. When I wrote “I Remember You,” I had been watching a friend go through a really rough time. I wanted to encourage them, that the circumstances and pain they were going through were not their identity. I still remembered them; and even if they were struggling to remember who they are through the pain of what they were going through, I wanted to let them know that I was there to remind them of who they truly are.”
With her signature blend of soulful, rootsy rock, a sound that helped land her single “Dance with the Devil,” onto the Top 40 and Hot AC Mediabase charts, Bexton continues to prove that music can be both both deeply personal and universally resonant.
