PHOTOS: The captivatingly eccentric Viagra Boys bring their brand of post-punk to Chicago for new album

The Swedish post-punk band Viagra Boys has landed in North America for their Infinite Anxiety Tour to promote their newest album, Viagr Aboys. Joining them for this leg in the tour in Chicago is Die Spitz, a ferociously riotous punk four-piece from Austin, Texas.

Viagra Boys are no strangers to Chicago’s Salt Shed, having sold out their Shrimp City Beach 1993 Reunion Tour show in 2023 and again for this leg of the Infinite Anxiety Tour. Part dark humor, part jazz, part sleaze; it is hard to describe a Viagra Boys show without saying it is nothing short of artistically chaotic, like a Pollock painting but with beer sprayed on it and cigarette burns. Many of their songs include social commentary and just plain absurdity (such as “Sports“).

Viagr Aboys is band’s fourth studio album released on April 25th through their own newly launched label, Shrimptech Enterprises. The album is filled with the unapologetic, bold, art punk energy that fans have come to love. Check out their lead single from the album “Man Made of Meat” to get the idea. Viagra Boys brings that same energy to all their shows; if you are not moshing or dancing, then your eyes are locked on frontman Sebastian Murphy, singing along to all their songs.

Die Spitz has quickly made a name for themselves and should be a band on your radar, if they are not already. They released their debut album Something to Consume via Third Man Records on September 12th much to the praise of punk rock and doom metal fans alike. Free-spirited yet edgy, Die Spitz will keep you on your toes and is the perfect complement to the Viagra Boys at this show.
