PHOTOS | REVIEW: little image heats up El Club in Detroit, MI

It was finally feeling like summer in Detroit after and as the night began to cool down the nearly sold-out crowd was packed tight into Mexicantown’s greatest venue, El Club. It was going to be one of those sweaty dance filled nights where you can’t help but bump into everyone around you, but would we really want it any other way? With the sun still shining in from the venue’s glass block windows, the Dallas, TX alt-pop trio little image took the stage and wasted zero time getting everyone moving.

The members little image first met in high school and consists of Jackson Simmons (vocals, guitar), Troy Bruner (drums) and Brandon Walters (bass/synth). The group actually released their first album, Musings, while still in school, but tonight they kicked off their set with “THE PRESSURE,” an upbeat synth filled dance beat released back in January of this year and it flipped things into instant dance mode. Following up the synths was “BLUE” off 2023’s self titled LP, a song that the group has previously said is about trying to be the voice of reason in a world that has become too loud. “NOVOCAINE” was up next, another track release earlier this year

Taking a quick break between songs to talk with the crowd the group mentioned how it’s nice to play a show in Detroit proper as last time the boys came through the metro area they played a dozen miles north on Ferndale, a little shout out that caused the crowd to erupt in cheer. Keeping the momentum up little image jumped into “OUT OF MY MIND,” arguably the groups biggest hit to date also off the aforementioned 2023 self titled album.

little image closed out their set with the song “WORTH IT,” another off of 2023’s little image that slows things down a bit. This track is a vibe all it’s own and the crowd was feeling it, collectively swaying in sync with their wave building with the tempo and then bring it back down as the song ends with quiet vocals and a fading synth. little image gave big thanks to Detroit and a group goodbye and hopes to see us again in the near future. The 11 show run with Bad Suns has just wrapped up, but based on having been out on tour with the likes of Joywave and almost monday earlier this year, we can’t imagine it will be too long before we get to hang with them again!
