PHOTOS | REVIEW: Hippo Campus in San Francisco, California

Who: Hippo Campus
Where: The Independent San Francisco, California
When: September 17, 2024

Ahead of the release of their new album Flood, Hippo Campus announced a few shows in select cities to play the album live in full. San Francisco was one of the lucky cities chosen, and the special show was taken to the next level being played at the intimate Independent.

The show was sold out and the room was packed with loyal fans. With only having heard the few singles released prior to the night, aside from the hollering and cheers it was a relatively quiet night. Fans were excited for an opportunity to hear the new Hippo Campus album early, and were happy to vibe and soak in the music collectively. It was exciting for the band as well, and each member was all smiles. Playing songs live for the first time, and in such an intimate venue so close to fans. It brought the band back to their roots, and was a literal reminder of why and for who they are creating music.

Flood live sounded incredible, and shows the growth of the band over the years. It provides a new and evolved, yet familiar sound for Hippo Campus. Fans responded well to each song as it finished, and of course they were the loudest during singles such as “Paranoid”, “Tooth Fairy” and “Everything At Once.” As the show concluded, and with only a couple more days leading to the release, fans were left even more excited to finally have this album for themselves.
