Who: Bleachers
Where: Greek Theatre Berkeley, California
When: September 19, 2024
The magnificent Greek Theatre of Berkeley was sold out and bumping in welcoming Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers to town. The producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist puts intricate care into every body of work he’s involved in, and that includes his live show.
From start to finish this was a loud celebration with non-stop high energy. The crowd and band were all bumping up and down and belting the lyrics. Jack Antonoff is an absolute wonder to watch. The only times standing still was between songs, recounting times he was writing, working or traveling for his music. Even then, he was all smiles and jittering with excitement until he finally let it out and ran around the stage performing these songs he loves so fondly.
Now with four studio albums, this was essentially a greatest hits show. The latest album, and self titled, Bleachers was dominantly featured, but the set wasn’t short of fan favorites spanning the years of the band. Fans were tirelessly loud and matched Antonoff’s energy through the night.
The set momentarily slowed down, as fans were treated to a very special moment. Antonoff’s studio at Electric Lady was recreated as a stage set piece and riser. Antonoff performed acoustic renditions of “41” and “91”, and the crowd got an intimate look at what studio life for Antonoff is like while creating and playing these songs for the very first time.
A Bleachers show is unlike any other. They have a passion for the music they are creating that translates into an infectious and fun atmosphere. It’s an incredible experience and performance to witness that leaves fans breathless.
