South Korean indie rock trio wave to earth took over Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on September 9 for a warm night of dreamy indie rock. It was a hot one in Los Angeles, but wave to earth made the Greek Theatre the coolest place to be.
Currently on the road for their the pieces tour, wave to earth has continued to bring their signature blend of lo-fi rock, jazz, and mellow indie sounds to fans around the world. With fan favorites like “seasons,” “bad,” and “love.,” the band brought their signature dreaminess to life at the Greek Theatre.
Throughout the night, wave to earth moved through fan favorites from their catalog, with songs like “bad,” “annie,” “love.,” “cherry flavoured love inside your heart,” and “annie.” filling the Greek Theatre. One of the most beautiful moments of the evening came with “seasons.” Hearing the song live, surrounded by thousands of voices singing along, was so moving.
Despite playing a venue as big as the Greek Theatre, the band’s set design made the performance feel surprisingly intimate. The warm lighting and homey stage setup complemented their dreamy sound rather than overpowering it, creating the feeling of watching wave to earth in a much smaller room, just with a few thousand more fans along for the ride.
The band also took time to have some fun with the crowd, giving Los Angeles a quick Korean slang lesson. They taught fans “Geoje, Yaho!”, which is like a Korean “6-7,” before getting the audience to yell it back together. Fans happily played along, turning the quick Korean lesson into one of the night’s cutest moments.
From the opening notes to the final songs of the set, wave to earth turned one of LA’s most iconic outdoor venues into their own intimate world for the night. Even after one of the hottest days in the city, the Greek Theatre proved to be the perfect setting for a night with wave to earth. If wave to earth is headed your way, grab a ticket and experience the magic for yourself!
