Country’s coolest cowboy Orville Peck took the Hollywood Palladium by storm this past week, playing two of his rescheduled back-to-back shows. With a special sound that nods to the vintage rockabilly of the ’50s and ’60s, Orville’s music dives deeper, revealing hints of shoegaze and indie. His look is just as iconic — signature tasseled masks obscure his face, often paired with a cowboy hat, making him an unmistakable presence and immediately recognizable.
Orville hit the stage with a surprisingly large live band, each member adding to a richer, fuller sound that elevated his performance beyond expectations. The evening kicked off against a sunset backdrop with “Big Sky,” “Turn to Hate,” and “The Hurtin’ Kind” setting the tone. Old favorites like “Dead of Night” brought nostalgia, though the absence of “Roses Are Falling” left fans longing, yet understanding of its lack of appearance as he’s been singing it for ages. The stage, adorned in bold lighting, vivid colors, and a classic bulb-lit marquee, created a dreamy western atmosphere reminiscent of a desert twilight. Orville’s outfit — a skeleton suit and matching mask — was a striking nod to the Halloween season.
While much of the setlist was drawn from his album Bronco, there were surprises exclusive to this show. Country songstress Debbii Dawson joined him for “Back at Your Door,” their harmonies beautifully filling the room and giving the audience chills. Later, he debuted “Permanently Lonely” live for the first time, a moment fans savored as it may remain a rarity. To top it off, Noah Cyrus joined him for the encore, delivering a stunning duet on “How Far Will We Take It?” Their chemistry on stage was pure magic, offering fans a glimpse into a long-standing friendship through an unforgettable live performance.
Orville’s vocals were as flawless as expected, but it was his candid interactions with fans that truly set the night apart. Between songs, he shared openly about recent struggles with mental health, connecting with fans through shared challenges. His journey toward healing and growth brought a sense of unity and love that deepened the concert’s impact. Although Orville has since wrapped up his tour, we eagerly await his next run, looking forward to another night filled with warmth, joy, and his unmistakable talent.
