Japanese Supergroup YAO Releases Debut Single

Some of Japan’s best-known artists in rock and hip-hop have joined together to form the new supergroup YAO. The project has debuted with its first single, “777”, alongside a music video directed by Hidehito Hotta, a longtime creative collaborator of Awich. Bringing together ONE OK ROCK, Awich, CHICO CARLITO, and Paledusk, YAO blends rock, hip-hop, and alternative influences into a single project.

YAO originated following a joint performance by ONE OK ROCK and Awich at a dome concert. After the show, ONE OK ROCK vocalist Taka expressed interest in collaborating with Awich, and the idea soon expanded with the addition of CHICO CARLITO and Paledusk, longtime collaborators of ONE OK ROCK.

The group’s debut single, “777,” showcases the different musical styles of its members, combining rock instrumentation with rap and alternative influences. The accompanying music video provides a cinematic visual counterpart to the track. Both the single and video are available now on major digital platforms.

Formed in 2005, ONE OK ROCK has become one of Japan’s most internationally recognized rock bands. Led by Taka, the group has built a worldwide following through extensive touring and albums including 35xxxv, Ambitions, Eye of the Storm, and Luxury Disease.

Awich is one of Japan’s leading hip-hop artists. Born in Okinawa, she is known for her introspective lyricism and collaborations that have helped broaden the profile of Japanese hip-hop.

Fellow Okinawan rapper CHICO CARLITO has earned recognition for his technical lyricism and steady presence in Japan’s hip-hop scene through his solo work and collaborations.

Completing the lineup, Paledusk has built a reputation for blending metalcore with electronic, hip-hop, and pop influences. The band’s genre-crossing approach and previous work with ONE OK ROCK made it a fitting addition to the project.
