Interview: Through The Oculus Talk New Album, Video, Post-Covid Shows, Women in Rock, and More

Concert Crap: Who is Through The Oculus?

Through The Oculus: Through The Oculus is a 4 piece Melodic Death Metal band. Members are Sarah Gamblin/Vocals, Randy Blount/Guitar/Backup Vocals, Lauren Weatherford/Bass, Eric Freeman/Drums.

CC: Your latest Self Titled album came out this year, with physical albums going on sale May 7th. What types of people would like this album/who is it for?

TTO: Our demographic varies throughout metal genres and we created our music to find a happy median between young and old.

CC: You have a music video coming out for the second track on the album “Order of the Eye”. Can you talk about the music video for that and what people should expect?

TTO: We are excited as this is our first playthrough video and it is a representation of how we look/dress at our live show shows.

CC: Being that, of course, TTO has females in the band. What would you like to tell other girls and women about getting into the music world, and the rock and metal world in particular? Any advice you’d like to tell them about what to expect or how to maneuver the landscape?

TTO: We strongly recommend females to pursue their dreams and not let fear of being judged for being women get in the way of that. We always push for girls to have confidence and push their hardest because unfortunately there are people who do judge, but that is not a reason to not continue. Ultimately our advice is to go for it and the only person who can hold you back is yourself.

CC: Anything you would tell them to refrain from in the music world?

TTO: Just don’t refrain from holding yourself back.

CC: How should they stay safe? And how should men embrace women in the rock and metal music world?

TTO: The best way to stay safe is to always stay with your group and don’t walk off alone at huge gatherings. We can’t say what people should or shouldn’t do, just take the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe.

CC: You guys are playing the Good Vibes Festival in Apple Valley, California May 22 with Afroman, Crazytown, and more. Are you nervous at all to play to crowds again following the worldwide pandemic?

TTO: We are more than ready to perform and with guidelines still in place, we do feel safe.

CC: When shows do return in full swing, who would TTO like to tour with?

TTO: We feel we would fit with Unleash The Archers, Spiritbox, Dragonforce, but especially Lacuna Coil because we mesh musically best with them.

CC: Why should people care about Through The Oculus?

TTO: We have a unique sound that we like to keep fresh and always pushing to better our live performance.

CC: Anything else you’d like to say?

TTO: We have had so much support this far and appreciate every person who listens to our music and comes to our concerts.
