I Prevail Returns with Violent Nature

Detroit’s I Prevail return on September 18 with Violent Nature, their fourth full-length release and the first since Brian Burkheiser’s departure. Eric Vanlerberghe now handles lead vocals, supported by backing harmonies from Dylan Bowman, marking a notable shift in the band’s setup.

The album was introduced through singles including “Violent Nature,” “Into Hell,” “Rain,” and “Annihilate Me.” These tracks gave listeners a sense of continuity. The band is still combining heavy sections with melodic passages, while also showing how Vanlerberghe’s presence changes the overall tone. “Violent Nature” highlights the harsher side of their sound, while “Rain” leans on cleaner melodies to balance things out.

Compared with Trauma (2019), which experimented more with electronics and crossover elements, Violent Nature feels more straightforward and restrained. Against True Power (2022), which ranged across several styles, this album stays more consistent, sticking closely to core metalcore structures. The result is a record that flows evenly, even if it doesn’t take as many risks.

Not every track stands out, and some patterns, breakdowns followed by big choruses, will be familiar to anyone who has followed the band. Still, the songs are put together with enough attention to detail to avoid sounding rushed.

Violent Nature doesn’t attempt to redefine I Prevail. Instead, it shows how the group is adapting to a new lineup and moving ahead with a sound that remains recognizable. For listeners who have followed the band since their early days in Detroit, the album serves as a steady continuation rather than a dramatic change.
