Handle With Scare: Ice Nine Kills Terrorizes Los Angeles Yet Again

Ice Nine Kills rendezvoused back to Los Angeles on the tail end of their Trinity of Terror Tour, Part III this week. The band’s last LA show was back in March during Part I of the tour. The YouTube Theater in Inglewood was packed from wall to wall with psychos (fans) of all ages from 5 to 65. The INK fandom is one not to be reckoned with and has no problem standing an hour in line to buy merch. (Yes, both lines had at least a one hour wait time upon entry.) This was definitely not the first rodeo for most — though it was the premiere for the younger generation of mini psychos.

The set this time around had a few new surprises as well as a special stocking stuffer — “Merry Axe-Mas” — complete with festive Santa hats. With “A Grave Mistake” and “Farewell II Flesh” (a personal favorite) added to the bill, the show was extra thrilling from start to finish. The theatrics and cinematic nods are Ice Nine Kills’ signature attributes and always exceed even seasoned veterans’ expectations. After seeing them play live many times, we are still blown away by every show. The energy, creativity and passion put into each performance is consistently overflowing with precision and dedication. The atmosphere was that of the traditional Ice Nine: eerie yet intensely alluring with a slice of heavy tunage.

The crowd chanted every song without fail — many dressed as various horror characters that are mirrored throughout their songs. Despite the limited floor size, Ice Nine’s fans did not hesitate when it came to opening up the pit and had a full-fledged mosh pit running for most of the set. Frontman Spencer Charnas closed out the night by climbing into the crowd during “Welcome To Horrorwood” to lay us all into our grave once and for all.
