Chicano-Alt Rock Band Slow Joy Tours with Real Friends

After being a sensation on TikTok, Slow Joy’s success has been captivated by thousands, if not millions of fans. Slow Joy’s Esteban Flores has his own unique style, a blend on rock music and Mexican-American heritage that relates a message to many in the city of Santa Ana which is known for their cultural center. We couldn’t ask for a better representative of what it’s like for people as ourselves to live in the shoes of being an outsider, a rocker in a traditional home. We were prepared for an opener, but the Observatory flock had no clue that Slow Joy was going to steal tonight’s show. The crowd was beyond hype once the trio hit the stage.

Flores has a witty sense of humor that charms the audience with burst-out laughter and wide grins. The band’s set was short lived; however, these guys made every second count nearly to the point I forgot there are other acts after their ecstatic performance. It would be big shoes for the next band to perform because each member had their own style that pairs well together which the audience had taken notice of quickly and instant connection to the listeners with their profound messages in their lyrics.

There was no one standing still at your typical rock show. This was not the case for Flores’ project Slow Joy. They brought their A game to the show as Flores says, “Have a good time!” That’s exactly what the fans were doing, there was headshaking and movement making.

The floor was ready for what comes next, yearning for more as the show goes on.

Slow Joy’s new studio record Mi Amigo Slow Joy was released on June 7th, 2024 via Mick Music (listen HERE). The EP was produced by Mike Sapone (Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, Grouplove) and follows 2023’s Wildflower EP.
