Album Review: Stitched Up Heart – ‘Darkness’

On March 13, Stitched Up Heart released Darkness. This album had been eagerly anticipated by fans for a while, as they had been dropping singles from it for months leading up to its release.

The first track on the album, “Lost,” was released in June. It features Sully Erna from Godsmack, and its music video can be seen here. This song starts off with heavy instrumentals then goes into catchy vocals. “This Skin” has a melody that’s memorable from the first time you hear it. The chorus of “Problems” is reminiscent of Stitched Up Heart’s really early work. “Warrior” is another song that was released a couple of months ago, and the music video for it can be found here.

“Dirty Secrets” might be one of the favorite tracks on the album. I love the lyrics and how vocalist’s Mixi Demner’s emotion is perfectly captured in the chorus. The title track, released in June, is another song with a catchy, sing-along chorus. “Bones” is a slow song, but it does pick up and get heavy for a part of the track. After a bouncy, electronic start to the song, Darkness closes with “My Demon.”

I’ve been listening to Stitched Up Heart for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how they’ve progressed as a band over the years. It’s been nearly four years since their last album, but Darkness was definitely worth the wait.
