Album Review: Logic Discography

It all started with mixtapes of Young Sinatra before there was Logic. Sir Robert Bryson Hall II is the Maryland rapper we got to know by the name of ‘Logic,’ just announced his retirement after his upcoming, final album. No Pressure will be a farewell to his fans all over the world so he can be a devoted father to his newborn son.

Under Pressure (2014)

Logic’s first album, Under Pressure, peaked at number four on US Billboard 200 charts in 2014. His first single off the album was “Under Pressure.” Once the word got out about his music, everyone was blown away. Logic’s high-speed freestyles, profound harmony and authentic lyrics captures his life in words. It was admiring to hear something so bare; I believe as a fan. Logic shares his struggles with his parents, gang violence and his own endeavors to fortune.

Favorite song: “Alright” feat. Big Sean

The Incredible True Story (2015)

Def Jam Records drops Logic’s second album, The Incredible True Story on November 13, 2015. The intro had super galactic vibes before it proceeded to one of the hits of the record, Fade Away.” Accordingly, Logic wrote the scripts at the end of each song on the album. The first two singles are “Young Jesus” and “Like Woah.” The whole album is based on an imaginary spaceship with his friends in the far future. The sound on The Incredible True Story is nineties rap nostalgia including old-school beats, MCs and his group, the Ratt Pack. The record is out of this world.

Favorite Song: “Never Been

Bobby Tarantino (2016)

The legend of Bobby Tarantino starts right here with Logic’s third album, Bobby Tarantino (2016). Logic is a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino, he wrote majority of his songs while watching Tarantino films. Bobby Tarantino received positives reviews from critics. The style on this record had a different set of tone than his previous records. Logic admits it was more of a “confession” album. Hit single off Bobby Tarantino is “Flexicution,” a term coined by Logic.

Favorite Song: “44 Bars

Everybody (2017)

Everybody is the fourth album from Logic and Def Jams Records, debuted in 2017. Everybody is Logic’s first number one album on the Billboard charts. Logic discusses his political views, touched on his roots, and used his platform for suicide prevention with the popular hit, “1-800-273-8255,” which is the number to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. The song received positive reviews all over the world. It raised mental awareness and at the Grammy’s, it was dedicated to the late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington and Soundgarden vocalist, Chris Cornell. Logic continued to speak openly about depression and anxiety on Everybody in the songs “Anziety” and “Black SpiderMan.”

Favorite Song: “Black SpiderMan

Bobby Tarantino II (2018)

Rick and Morty’s introduction to Logic’s fifth album/sixth mixtape is absolutely pure genius! Bobby Tarantino II mixtape was dropped on March 9, 2018. The album is definitely a throwback. We get to discover a mixture of classic Logic and his recent style. He brings back his fast, freestyle with features by Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean and first collaboration with EDM DJ, Marshmello with “Everyday.” It is the second, number one album after Everybody.

Favorite Song: “Everyday

YSIV (2018)

YSIV is the sixth album from Logic and Def Jam Records. It is rather heavy on the hip-hop side, in my opinion. There are various styles of rhythm and flow on YSIV with features by legendary rap artists. The album is a tribute to Mac Miller, who died earlier that year. Singles off the album includes, “One day” feat. Ryan Tedder.

Favorite Song: “Everybody Dies

Supermarket (2019)

Supermarket is Logic’s sixth album. This record takes on a different twist with his music, I have to say. You get to meet Logic’s alternative side. It is exact opposite from YSIV, the previous album. The music is influence by upbeat, melodic tones and sensible lyrics, which is a bold approach. Supermarket is what you get when you mix all genres in one album. The album peaked at fifty-six on the Billboard charts, however, number six on the Alternative albums’ list.

Favorite Song: “Pretty Young Girl

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019)

Logic and Def Jam Records return with the seventh studio album, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Logic is back in touch with his freestyle ways. Once again, he is wearing his heart on his sleeve and showing it to the world. He received mix feedback on this one, but mainly positive. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind brings in the iconic Eminem for the hit single, “Homicide.” Will Smith, G-Eazy and Gucci Mane appears in the album, as well. Singles include “Keanu Reeves” and “Homicide.”

Favorite Song: “Homicide” feat. Eminem

No Pressure (2020)

Logic releases his last studio album, No Pressure, Wednesday evening. No Pressure mirrors with his first debut of Under Pressure. The 30-year old rapper stated his retirement after his final studio project on social media last week. Logic’s No Pressure discuss topics such as racism, poverty and starting a family. The album give fans a sweet goodbye by throwing it back to the beginning of Logic’s legacy. No Pressure will go down as one of my favorites. It is streaming now!
