Photos / Review: Tantric at the Chop Shop

Who: The Redemption Tour – Tantric

Where: Chop Shop Pub, Seabrook, New Hampshire

When: May 13, 2018

Tantric’s The Redemption Tour included a stop at the Chop Shop Pub in New Hampshire. The band, founded in the late 90s, has undergone a few lineup changes in the years it’s been active. Vocalist Hugo Ferreira is the only original member of the band remaining; drummer Troy Patrick Farrell, bassist Jaron Gulino, and guitarist Sebastian LaBar are more recent additions to the band.

The venue was pretty empty since it was a Sunday. The audience was still not warm by the time Tantric got on; they had been paying more attention to their phones than to the opening bands and needed to be woken up. Tantric dove straight in and put on a great show. The set started with “Down & Out” and included “Frequency” and “Breakdown,” which was an audience favorite.  Ferreira had a very effortless way of dealing with the audience and getting their attention. The longer the set went on, the more people moved away from the tables they had been sitting at and started crowding around the stage. He has a very distinctive baritone and each song was sung well. Guitarist LaBar breezed through each solo and his backing vocals were impressive. Bassist Gulino was energetic and a fun performer, also providing great backup vocals. Drummer Farrell meant it every time he hit a drum and kept the beat right where it should have been.

Tantric is an underrated band; instead of scoffing off the small crowd, they put on an excellent show. If you get a chance to catch a show, it will not disappoint.
