Photos / Review: PVRIS and Lights rock Downtown Los Angeles

PVRIS started their second North American headline tour this Friday with support from Canadian pop superstar Lights and upcoming Los Angeles natives Party Nails.

PVRIS Shuts Down The Novo at LA Live with Songs from White Noise and their Latest Album

PVRIS was not lying when they said that they had a lot in store for this current run of dates.

The band has become master of illusion and aesthetics within the past few years of rigorous touring schedules.

From coming fresh of a stadium tour with Muse and 30 Seconds to Mars, they were ready to “come home” to their own fans and take this run on by storm.

What to Expect from PVRIS’ Current Headline Tour

Expect a wide array of instrumentation. From synthesizers to samples and even a second drum kit for frontwoman Lynn Gunn to rock out on, the Massachusetts based alternative/synth pop band did not whole back in the slightest.

In addition, fans can expect the return of LED displays. On PVRIS’ first headline tour, the band utilized the iconic “White Noise mirror” in their set as a scree that would display single artwork and animation corresponding to the songs that PVRIS was performing.

This stage aesthetic has graced the stage once again in the form of three vertical rectangular screens.

Also, behind these screens are “street lights” that fluctuate with the set.

It also seems PVRIS has made the jump to digital amplification and with that said, do not expect to see guitar amps or cabinets on stage. Lynn Gunn, Brian MacDonald and Alex Babinski guitars will be powered by their pedal boards and the signal will be sent to front of house for the remainder of this run.

The only instruments on stage will be the retro-looking keyboards the band plays live, Lynn’s SJC drum kit and Justin Nace’s custom made drum kit.

PVRIS Could Not Have Chosen Better Support for this Run

With Lights’ popularity and draw of the audience for the first night of this run, this tour may as well be a co-headliner with PVRIS.

Lights cited in between songs last Friday that this was the first time in two years her and her band played a concert in Los Angeles.

In addition, this specific date was also coincidentally the release day of her highly anticipated concept album release entitled “Skin & Earth.”

The concert album has been both explained and teased by the comic books Lights’ has self released exclusively for this album. If you are interested in buying the comic books to dig deeper into the story, you are in luck because these items will be sold at Lights’ merch booth on this run with PVRIS.

Party Nails also made for a fine opener for this touch. The Los Angeles native alt-pop band got to play a packed and intimate home show for the first date of this current run.

As an upcoming act, not many Angelinos knew of the band, however as soon as their set concluded, they won over a brand new local fan base with the lasting impression they made.

The PVRIS headliner has just started and may be coming to a city near you. If it is, definitely make it out to one of these dates.
