It’s bands like Owl Company that prove that rock ‘n roll is alive and kicking. Their album Horizon is that dirty, whisky rock that makes you want to just pour yourself into the music. If Disturbed and Motley Crue had a baby, this would probably be it; think classic rock bands mixed with heavy metal bands. It’s a sound that works well and I’m surprised we don’t see it more often.
“Riddles” is my favorite track off this album. It starts immediately; there aren’t any annoying long intros. Not even 30 seconds into the song, we get to see the vocalist’s incredible range from really low to nice and high, with every note as powerful as the other. I also love the way the notes are set up in this song, that “nah-nah-nah-nah,” that the guitar does with the vocals. I highly recommend “Black ‘N Blue” as well, which is a really powerful song. Check out “Underdog” for a song that will just make you feel like you can do anything. That guitar solo is really good, too.
Owl Company is really blazing a new path with their soulful music and gritty lyrics in Horizon.
