It is no surprise that fan favorite Baltimore outfit All Time Low is still making waves in the music industry. Since their move from Hopeless Records to Fueled By Ramen, many fans awaited the new release to follow up with the success of its predecessor Future Hearts. Thus, on June 2, the wait was finally over, and Last Young Renegade was released alongside an announcement of an accompanying tour.
Although Last Young Renegade doesn’t quite have the tropes of previous releases, it is very much a more mature approach for the band. If you are looking for a second Nothing Personal, you would not find it in this album. Last Young Renegade is more of a slow burn that leaves a mark when it needs to. For instance, on the first single “Dirty Laundry”, the song is a slow buildup until guitarists Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth guide us into the breakdown with melodic guitars that offset the slower tempo of the song.
Though this recent release may not be for everyone, long time All Time Low fans may enjoy the new creative approach that the band has taken on. Sometimes, change may be a good thing for a band that is progressing and keeping up with the times.
