Photos / Review : Sasquatch Music Festival 2017 – Day 2

Who: Sasquatch Music Festival Day 2 – Twenty One Pilots, Sir-Mix-a-Lot, Fred Armisen, Arkells, Sam Lachow, American Football

Where: The Gorge Amphitheater, George, Washington

When: May 27, 2017

The second day of the festival was personally my favorite of the three days. Unfortunately another performance was canceled this time unsurprisingly by Mac Miller who made the decision to cancel the performance so he could be with his girlfriend Ariana Grande after the tragedy at her show in Manchester earlier in the week. The festival was able to get Sir-Mix-a-Lot as a last minute replacement.  I was able to catch a variety of different performances on Saturday including comedian Fred Armisen, Sir-Mix-a-Lot, Arkells, American Football, Sam Lachow, and Twenty One Pilots. Check out a summary of each performance below!

Fred Armisen: I was excited to see the comedian who is best known from Saturday Night Live and Portlandia. Not only did he entertain the crowd with his jokes, he also played guitar and drums, and held a Q + A with the crowd!

Sir-Mix-a-Lot: Luckily the rapper lives in Washington and was able to replace Mac Miller last minute. By the size of the energetic crowd, the fans seem pleased with the replacement. As someone from Bremerton, WA it was fun finally getting to see the rapper who wrote a song about our city “Bremelo”. The second he started to perform Baby Got Back everyone was off their feet dancing along.

American Football: Not a band you would typically find at a festival. The band put on a great set. The disappointing size of the crowd and the band’s emo tunes had me feeling a bit emo myself.

Arkells: After 5 years, I finally got to see this band again. Last time I saw them was when they opened for The Maine in 2012. They sure have grown since then and seem quite more professional and happy now. They put on amazing set and during the beginning of their set the singer literally jumped down and got into the middle of the crowd!

Sam Lachow: The Seattle rapper was a last minute addition to the lineup to replace yet another cancellation, this time by Kaiydo. Infact, he didn’t even know he was playing until 4pm the day before! I hadn’t seen him for a couple of years so I was stoked to see he had been added to the lineup. Lachow is well known in the Seattle music scene so the crowd for his set was huge. I’m sure more people were at his set than there would’ve been for Kaiydo. Despite not knowing until last minute, he really put on a great show he even hopped down off the stage multiple times to get more up close and personal with the fans. After the festival was over you could spot Lachow playing beer bong with fans at the campgrounds!

Twenty One Pilots: Were one of the few bands I was actually really excited to see. There’s just something about how the band interacts and connects with the fans at their shows that make me love seeing them live. Some of their dedicated fans were in line before the festival even ended the day before! I highly recommend seeing this band before you make any judgements based off their fanbase. The band’s stage presence and production are next level, I came across multiple people who were extremely impressed with their set after the festival had ended. Sasquatch was one of the last few shows the band was playing before taking a well deserved break. The album cycle for Blurryface has finally come to an end and I can’t wait to see what this band comes up with next!
