Album Review: Rick Monroe – “Gypsy Soul”

Gyspy Soul EP cover.jpg

Country better look out – Rick Monroe is about to take over. His new EP Gypsy Soul – released May 12 – is pure perfection. The six songs on this release showcase his beautifully unique voice, as well as highlight his impressive range. The music will get you grooving and the lyrics are all well-written.

With only six songs on the EP, you wouldn’t expect it to be very diverse music-wise, but it actually is. “This Side of You” is a sultry song; you’ll start by quietly humming along and before you know it, you’ll be singing at the top of your lungs. “Gypsy Soul,” the title track of the album, is the song that Monroe will definitely be remembered for; it’s faster paced, shows off just how high and low he can go, and has some great guitar solos and amazing backup vocals. “Rage On” slows the tempo down a little bit and showcases just how soulful Monroe can get.

Each of the six songs on this album are expertly performed and beautifully delivered. Monroe manages to deliver an energetic, charismatic EP that will leave you wanting more. With Gypsy Soul only being Rick Monroe’s sophomore EP release, it’s exciting to think how good the next album will be, because this one is absolutely amazing.
