After nearly three years since putting out their last album, The Dead Rabbitts released their newest record, This Emptiness. This hardcore rock band features Craig Mabbitt and T.J. Bell from Escape The Fate.
After a few seconds, “Burn It Down” builds up to a hard, fast introduction, with the same heavy sound throughout. The line “I’m good without you” is repeated throughout the song. During its last repetition, the song fades to a close. “Dead Again” was released a couple of months previously to This Emptiness. It begins with a slow start filled with keys, before launching into a faster, heavier sound. I’ve found that this is a song that definitely grows on you over time. It’s a good one to sing along to. The title track on the album may be my favorite. It has many lyrics that stand out, such as “I’m not perfect, but I’m not worthless, you should know, this emptiness gives me room to grow.”
As “This Emptiness” ends, it flows into “The Butcher.” Its fast-paced introduction leads into a heavy first verse. The lines “now I know who you are, you’re the butcher behind every broken heart” in the chorus really bring emphasis to the point of the song. “Suspicious” starts with a slow beginning with a steady beat. The first verse starts slow before speeding up for the chorus. The song slows down again as it fades to a close. The last track on the album is “Man at War.” It has a really catchy sound, with a unique breakdown that almost stands out when compared to the rest of the album.
Although this album only lasts for ten songs and about 35 minutes, this album feels much longer than that. I’ve been playing this CD in my car since it came out, and it’s a great record for driving to. The Dead Rabbitts are going on tour this summer, and I can’t wait to see them again.
