Concert Crap: Can you talk about a brief history of the band?
Nick J. Townsend: WEAK13 had always been underground. We spent three to four years recording our first professional studio album called They Live, thanks to producer John Stewart and I think most people see the bands important history from that point onwards. Before 2015 I think many just didn’t know what the band was capable of musically because they couldn’t hear the finished product but as soon we recorded a great album and made a lot of people wake up then I think we’ll say we’ve only just started; we’re already working on the second album. A lot of people are talking about Weak13 now.
CC: What does your band name mean?
NT: WEAK13 is the best band name in the world. When you get called on to the stage and hear that name screamed at you then I think its safe to say that people find their own meaning. You know what? I’m not going to spoil the surprise because WEAK13 has a different meaning for many people and as long as it makes them happy then that’s all that’s important.
CC: Who are some of your musical inspirations?
John Carpenter is one of my favourites really; he writes the music for most of his film productions and his music has always been an inspiration.
CC: Who would you like to tour with realistically and un realistically?
NT: Unrealistically I’d say Kanye West; just so that he could get better educated and learn that myself, Nick J Townsend, and my band WEAK13 are the greatest rockstars in the world.
Realistically? Well I’m an underground artist and I only play shows with people I like and thankfully I tour with people I like.
CC: What does the rest of 2016 have in store for you guys?
NT: Well we’re making sure the second WEAK13 studio album is in production and we have a few shows but mainly this will be a lot of work behind the scenes; there’s also music videos being made so there’s always something going on with WEAK13.
CC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans or anyone that may be reading this interview at all?
NT: Do you remember when albums used to be played back to back? They were great albums. Bands unfortunately stopped making great albums many years ago. Well, we made sure WEAK13 is making great albums; our debut studio album is called They Live and if you’ve missed a real album then you’ll enjoy this.
